This webinar offers an existential perspective on moral injury understood as relational trauma that goes beyond neurobiological impact and affects one’s sense of self, dignity, identity, belonging and meaning. Moral injury stems from interpersonal or communal relational experiences marked by betrayal, gaslighting, dishonesty, scapegoating or weaponizing relationality, and from situations in which one is asked to go against one’s moral conscience and contribute to a likely harmful outcome (e.g., military or healthcare contexts).

Through case studies and therapy vignettes, participants will learn how to recognize moral injury as relational trauma, how to differentiate it from other traumatic experiences, and how to encounter and accompany people dealing with moral injury in the process of restoring a sense of personal dignity, relational safety, and belonging.
